Outdoor Senior Activity Ideas in Fort Worth

As your loved one begins to age and starts to have mobility challenges, it can be difficult to find outdoor activities that are safe for them to experience. You want them to continue to enjoy the outdoors as it can be a great way to unwind but can be dangerous if they push beyond their new mobility limitations. Luckily, Fort Worth has a lot of great options that you can take your aging loved one to still enjoy the great outdoors but in a controlled environment to avoid unnecessary stress or injury.

1. Go for a hike!

The Trinity Trails provides over 100 miles of hiking trails throughout Fort Worth. Hiking might be a challenge for your loved one depending on their current activity level but getting out in nature can be healing on its own. We recommend doing some of your own reconnaissance before taking your loved one out to ensure that the hike won’t be too taxing on them.

Trinity trails also offers kayaking and other non-motorized vehicles on the water if you think your aging loved one would enjoy.

2. Catch some fish!

Fishing can be one of the most relaxing forms of enjoying nature and Fort Worth offers some picturesque locations to fish at. The highest rated park to fish at (according to Google Reviews) is Marine Creek Lake Park at 4.5 average stars with over 485 reviews done. Crappie and catfish are popular catches with some bass occasionally thrown in. If you need something on the south part of Fort Worth, check out Greenbriar Park that keeps their fishing spots regularly stocked.

3. Check out the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge!

The idea of the FWNC&R is to present visitors with what Fort Worth might have looked like in the late 19th century. You can see forests, prairies, and different kinds of wetland as you hike across the nature center along with viewing bison herds and other animals. How is it friendly to seniors? Normal adults under the age of 64 cost $6. Seniors that are 65+ are given a discounted rate of 50% off!

4. See some animals at the Fort Worth Zoo!

As your aging loved one has likely retired from daily work, finding hobbies that are available on a daily basis can be a challenge. Luckily, the Fort Worth Zoo is open regularly and offers discounted rates for seniors. If they are only looking to go on occasion, the daily rate for seniors is $4 less than normal adult pricing. If your loved one is a huge fan of the zoo and likes to go regularly for the different monthly events, you could purchase them an annual membership. You will get free parking, guests with seniors will receive a $3 discount, and you get that membership for $52 ($14 less than regular adults.

It can be difficult to find new hobbies for your aging loved one but with some good research and guidance, Fort Worth offers a lot of different activities that are friendly for seniors.
